Jonathan Holiday - 2006 Advocare Triathlon Series Champion

Why do you race?
I love triathlons!!! Everything about it...the camaraderie, the training, the traveling. It's everything wrapped up into one great package.

What kinds of races have you done throughout your life and now?
It started out with a 5k race in November 2003 to get in better shape. Then 10k's, 1/2 & full marathons. Then came triathlons after I volunteered at a Tri in 2004. I've done all four distances from Sprint to Ironman.

Have you learned any life lessons while racing?
"Carpe Diem" - better enjoy today because tomorrow is not certain. "All things are possible through Jesus Christ." Philippians 4:13

From an active lifestyle view, what do you see in your future?
More triathlons...after competing in over 40 tri's this year, I hope to continue tri'ing all my life. Goals: Qualify for Hawaii IronMan. Compete in the RAMM (Race Across AMerica)

What would you tell someone new who is getting started with an active lifestyle?
HAVE FUN!!!! - no sport is worth doing if you aren't having fun. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to compete in such a challenging sport. To have the privilege of walking onto the playing field with both first timers and pro's. We so often take for granted the gifts and abilities we have. 11 years ago I laid on the side of the road left dead after a bicycle accident. After spending most of my life playing football, basketball and baseball; I was not only seeing my sports career come to an end, but my LIFE coming to an end as well. After 12 hours of brain surgery and countless prayers from friends and family, the doctors reported to my parents that I had an 8 percent chance of living - and if I did survive I would be in a 'Vegetative" state. With a family that believes in miracles - we not only saw myself survive....but strive to move forward in life. After graduating school with presidential honors I then found myself back in the sports arena - TRIATHLONS.
